Looking for a way to use the wonderful Metaboard? Try this energetic and very useful icebreaker. Put delegates into group of 3-5 people and give each one a different colour smelly marker. Put each group in front of a board covered with paper. When you give the sign, ask each individual, at the same time, to write whatever words come to mind when they hear the topic of the session or workshop. For example, Customer Service, Leadership, Interview skills etc. Give them a few minutes and then ask them to stop, everybody have a look at the boards and then introduce themselves to the group explaining why they wrote the words they did. As the Trainer – this can be especially useful to walk around and listen to get a good idea of the delegate’s thoughts on the workshop topic before you even start. Use this same exercise with the metacards… Give each person three round cards. Ask them what comes to mind when they hear the topic of the workshop. Ask them to write one word per card, and then use those cards to introduce themselves to the rest of the people on their table. Make a note of similarities and differences. Ask each table to choose three words from the table and then collect those cards and stick on a flip chart at the front of the room. Use these to look at the objectives and agenda for the day.

Product Description

This pack of 52 playing cards + 2 jokers are colossal! They are A4 size and made from extremely good quality heavy duty card. Ideal for energisers for large groups - play your cards right - higher or lower! Ideal also for getting people into groups - pick a card and find your partners.

Here are some more energisers:

Great flexible training equipment to split delegates into teams or decide an order for the delegates to take their turns. For large groups tape a card underneath the seats of every chair - ask delegates to untape the cards and find their teams.

Energisers to use your cards for in Motivation - Split your group into 3 or more teams and give each team a set of playing cards. Give written instruction to each team about the task they have to complete. On one instruction ask the team to sort the cards into sets of the same number, on another ask them to sort them into suits and on another ask them to sort them into suits in numerical order. Explain that they need to do the task as quickly as possible. Observe the reactions of the teams as some finish before others and de-brief bringing out the learning points about motivation, competition, team working etc.

OR Creative Thinking - Split the group into teams and get them to design a brand new card game for the other teams to play. Award points for creativity, clarity of explanation etc.

Plus - Train the Trainer - Give each delegate a set of cards and instructions for a card game. Their task is to teach other members of the group to play the game without referring to the instructions. The de-brief for this can also include reference to the different ways in which people take in information (i.e.. visual, auditory & kinaesthetic).
