Looking for a way to use the wonderful Metaboard? Try this energetic and very useful icebreaker. Put delegates into group of 3-5 people and give each one a different colour smelly marker. Put each group in front of a board covered with paper. When you give the sign, ask each individual, at the same time, to write whatever words come to mind when they hear the topic of the session or workshop. For example, Customer Service, Leadership, Interview skills etc. Give them a few minutes and then ask them to stop, everybody have a look at the boards and then introduce themselves to the group explaining why they wrote the words they did. As the Trainer – this can be especially useful to walk around and listen to get a good idea of the delegate’s thoughts on the workshop topic before you even start. Use this same exercise with the metacards… Give each person three round cards. Ask them what comes to mind when they hear the topic of the workshop. Ask them to write one word per card, and then use those cards to introduce themselves to the rest of the people on their table. Make a note of similarities and differences. Ask each table to choose three words from the table and then collect those cards and stick on a flip chart at the front of the room. Use these to look at the objectives and agenda for the day.

Product Description

Now the season for Appraisals and Performance Reviews is upon us this book is invaluable...

Author: Peter English

At some stage or other we all have to deal with difficult conversations. It may be to express dissatisfaction with our own treatment or give feedback on poor performance. You may have to make clear a tough decision or deny a request. Saying no is not easy.

The Tackling Difficult Conversations Pocketbook will help build your confidence, reduce your anxiety and equip you with the skills to steer emotionally-fuelled conversations towards a successful outcome. It helps you learn how to communicate with authority, clarity and persuasiveness, and - through active listening, mirroring body language and other techniques - how to empathize with the other person and how to interpret what they are saying, feeling and thinking. Being clear about the outcome you desire and recognising your own responses to conflict (and managing these constructively) will be crucial to your preparations. Timing, location and seating arrangements are factors too, as this pocketbook explains.
